Together with Pikionis, Kontoglou and Hatzimichali he led the movement of introducing elements of Greek tradition in painting. During his travels in Paris and Istanbul in the 30's he came in contact with Renaissance art and Impressionism and met influential artists such as Matisse and Giacometti.
